In a heartfelt celebration of literature and cross-cultural dialogue, the Pakistan Association of Greater Houston (PAGH) recently hosted a vibrant evening as part of its popular series “Kitab aur Chai.” The spotlight of the event was the official launch of Ajaibat-e-Qahira (Wonders of Cairo), the latest literary offering from acclaimed writer Bashir Qamar.

The gathering brought together a rich mix of authors, scholars, and community figures who came to honor Qamar’s profound impact on Urdu literature. The ambiance was described by attendees as “deeply moving” and “culturally uplifting,” showcasing the ability of books to build bridges across time, geography, and generations.

The event was gracefully hosted by Siraj Narsi, with proceedings conducted by Ghazanfar Hashmi in his signature eloquent style. Esteemed literary figure Majeed Akhtar presided over the ceremony, while Bashir Qamar received a warm and enthusiastic welcome as the guest of honor.

Speakers throughout the evening praised the book’s unique voice and cultural depth:

  • Tasneem Qamar shared a touching perspective on the author’s literary journey and creative discipline.
  • Zahid Babar spoke about the book’s ability to link South Asian readers with the Middle Eastern world.
  • Jalali Sahib reflected on Cairo’s portrayal in the book, highlighting its rich cultural and historical context.
  • Zeeshan Mirza emphasized how works like this enhance mutual understanding between diverse cultures.
