Emgage Texas convened a thought-provoking community forum at Café FiLLi Sugar Land, focusing on how recent legislative shifts in Texas are reshaping classrooms and the broader future of education in Fort Bend County. Central to the discussion was the impact of these changes on bilingual and culturally diverse student populations.
Afshi Charania, Trustee on the Fort Bend ISD Board, emphasized that state laws are not abstract directives but real forces that directly shape students’ daily learning experiences. She noted that evolving policies on curriculum, funding, and bilingual education present both new possibilities and urgent challenges for schools.

Representing the office of State Rep. Dr. Suleman Lalani, Aaron Burgess shed light on the legislative process and outlined Dr. Lalani’s priorities in education. He underscored the importance of ensuring that the perspectives of local communities are meaningfully reflected in state policy decisions.

The conversation drew significant participation from the Pakistani American Voters Association (PAVA), as well as local leaders, educators, advocates, and executives. Session coordinator Nilofer Hafeezi kept the dialogue focused and engaging, guiding participants through a nuanced exchange of ideas.

A lively Q&A concluded the evening, providing attendees an opportunity to voice concerns, pose questions, and directly engage with panelists. This interactive segment deepened understanding of how state policy decisions translate into classroom realities for children in Fort Bend.
Attendees commended Emgage for creating this timely platform and expressed optimism that similar forums will continue to keep the community informed, connected, and active in shaping the future of education.
