The Houston Office of Emergency Management (OEM) will conduct a wireless emergency alert test across the Houston area at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 5.
As part of FEMA’s Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS), the test will send a message to mobile devices to ensure the system works properly. IPAWS is designed to quickly deliver life-saving information during emergencies such as hurricanes, flash floods, chemical incidents, and other dangerous situations.

“If you live in the Houston area, this test is a reminder to make sure your phone’s emergency alerts are turned on,” said a Houston OEM spokesperson. “These alerts are a vital tool for keeping our community safe during disasters.”
Most modern cell phones are already compatible with the system, but residents are encouraged to double-check their emergency alert settings.
