A Transformative Public Speaking & Khutbah Workshop in Houston

Public speaking is an art that can inspire, educate, and bring about change. For many, the ability to communicate effectively in front of an audience is a skill that requires practice, confidence, and the right guidance. Recognizing this need, Plus1 and the Islamic Society of Greater Houston (ISGH) have joined hands to organize Be The Voice, a public speaking and khutbah workshop featuring Br. Omar Usman, a founding member of Qalam Institute.

This one-day immersive experience, scheduled for Saturday, February 15th, aims to equip both men and women with the tools to excel in public speaking—whether it’s delivering a compelling khutbah or addressing a large audience with confidence.

Why Public Speaking Matters in Our Communities

Public speaking isn’t just about standing behind a podium and reciting words; it’s about engaging the audience, conveying a meaningful message, and leaving a lasting impact. For those who aspire to lead, educate, or inspire, mastering this skill is essential.

In Islamic tradition, the khutbah (sermon) holds a special significance. It is not merely a speech but a means of spiritual and social guidance. Unfortunately, many passionate individuals hesitate to take on this responsibility due to fear of public speaking or lack of proper training. This workshop is designed to break those barriers and provide practical strategies to become an effective and confident speaker.

What to Expect from the Workshop?

Led by Br. Omar Usman, an expert in communication and leadership training, the workshop will cover:

Fundamentals of Public Speaking – Overcoming stage fright, structuring a speech, and engaging the audience.
Mastering the Art of Khutbah – Delivering powerful and well-structured sermons that resonate with listeners.
Practical Exercises – Hands-on practice sessions to refine speaking skills in a supportive environment.
Personalized Feedback – Guidance from an experienced mentor to enhance delivery and confidence.
ISGH Khutbah Rotation Eligibility – Completion of the workshop fulfills the requirement to join the ISGH Khutbah Rotation, providing a platform for aspiring khateebs.
