Houston: A town hall meeting was held in Fort Bend County to raise awareness and promote support for youth mental health and well-being. The event brought together community leaders, education representatives, experts, and local residents.
The discussion focused on how families, teachers, friends, sports coaches, and other members of the community can play an active role in improving young people’s mental health and identifying potential concerns at an early stage.

The meeting was hosted by Christian Becerra, Vice President of Fort Bend Mental Health (FBMH). The panel featured Afshi Charania, Trustee of Fort Bend Independent School District, and Zach Lambert, Trustee of Lamar Consolidated Independent School District. The panelists openly discussed mental health challenges facing young people and practical ways to support them.

The discussion highlighted that parents, family members, friends, teachers, and coaches are often well-positioned to recognize changes in young people’s behavior and offer timely support. Participants stressed the importance of equipping these individuals with the knowledge and confidence to recognize challenges, initiate meaningful conversations, and connect young people with appropriate help when needed.
Participants expressed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and communication among different segments of the community to protect young people’s mental health and help them build a healthier and brighter future.
