HOUSTON, TX— October 07, 2026 — Families looking for something fun to do in Houston this fall have plenty to explore at Discovery Green, where pumpkins, giant colorful animals and family activities are bringing a festive feel to downtown.

Two of the park’s biggest fall attractions are the Houston Pumpkin Festival and Fantastic Animals from México: Alebrijes and Nahuales.

The two are separate attractions, but together they give families a chance to enjoy fall entertainment, outdoor art and a little bit of culture in the heart of the city.

Pumpkins, Rides and Family Fun

The Houston Pumpkin Festival is turning part of Discovery Green into a fall-themed attraction through November 8.

Visitors can walk through pumpkin displays, take photos, enjoy rides and explore attractions including a hay maze, pumpkin houses, boats, a carousel and a 30-foot slide. There are also food options and several interactive installations.

The festival is open Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Admission is currently $18 from Monday through Thursday and $28 from Friday through Sunday, while children 3 and under are free. Organizers recommend buying tickets online in advance because walk-up admission can be limited when the festival is busy.

Giant Mexican Art Takes Over Discovery Green

For families who want something different, Discovery Green is also hosting Fantastic Animals from México: Alebrijes and Nahuales through October 18.

The free outdoor exhibition features eight giant sculptures, each about 20 feet tall, created by Mexican artists and artisans. The colorful creatures are inspired by Mexican magical realism and Mesoamerican folklore.

The sculptures include imaginative animals and mythical creatures, giving visitors something to discover as they walk through the park.

The exhibition is also a chance for Houston families to experience Mexican art and culture in an open outdoor setting. Discovery Green says the installation celebrates Mexican craftsmanship and highlights the cultural connection between Houston and Mexico.

A Good Fall Outing for Houston Families

Discovery Green is located at 1500 McKinney Street in downtown Houston and is a 12-acre public park with a lake, gardens, playgrounds, restaurants and regular family programming.

For Houston families, the combination of the pumpkin festival and outdoor art offers an easy way to spend a few hours downtown without having to travel far.

It can also be a good option for families looking for activities during the fall and Hispanic Heritage Month, with the giant Mexican sculptures adding a cultural element to the visit.
