Houston Community Raises Over $1 Million for Pakistan Flood Relief

Houston’s Pakistani-American community came together in a remarkable show of generosity, surpassing all expectations at a recent fundraising event. Initially aiming to raise $500,000, the community’s spirit of giving led to over $1 million collected by the evening’s end. The relief effort includes $500,000 in cash and an equivalent value in in-kind medical supplies, equipment, and winter essentials. These contributions will support ongoing rehabilitation projects in Pakistan, including medical aid, temporary housing, clean water provision, and school reconstruction.

Syed Javed Anwar: A Beacon of Philanthropy

The chief guest and Chief Patron of AFDR, renowned philanthropist Syed Javed Anwar, continued his legacy of generosity by donating $150,000. Addressing the audience, he emphasized:

“If you are blessed with abundance, share it. Every act of sincere giving returns multiplied by the grace of God.”

His heartfelt message resonated deeply, creating a spiritual and inspiring atmosphere. His leadership, compassion, and humility made the event both meaningful and memorable.

Consul General Applauds Community Spirit

Aftab Chaudhry, Consul General of Pakistan in Houston, lauded the Pakistani-American community for its unwavering support. He remarked:

“This community has always stood by Pakistan in difficult times, and today once again, it has proven its loyalty and love.”

Humanitarian Efforts Beyond Borders

Javed Siddiqui, CEO of HHRD, highlighted that donations directed to Pakistan, Gaza, and other regions are directly transforming lives. Muhammad Saeed Sheikh, Coordinator of the Houston Alliance for Pakistan Flood Relief & Rehabilitation 2025, expressed gratitude to attendees and shared plans for upcoming initiatives.

Messages of Unity and Service

Motivational speakers, Assistant Chief of Police Yasar Bashir and Hamza Ghaya, delivered inspiring messages emphasizing the importance of service, unity, and collective responsibility, reinvigorating attendees’ commitment to humanitarian efforts.

Honoring Service and Contributions

Ilyas Chaudhry presented a detailed overview of HHRD Houston’s ongoing projects. Community leaders including Haroon Sheikh, Ahmad Alyasin, Javed Ashraf, Dr. Naveed Saqib, Faheem Khwaja, and Siraj Narsi were recognized for their exceptional contributions. The event was hosted with grace and professionalism by Sabia Siddiqui. Special appreciation was extended to Walter Ulrich, President and CEO of Medical Bridges, and media partners for their continued support.

Heartfelt acknowledgment went to the organizing committee and HHRD team members — Saad Ansari, Moeez Khan, Sami, Sameer Khan, Mahmood Ahmed, Shahzaib Sheikh, Maria Osmani, Saad Baig, and PSA team members Farah Iqbal, Abdul Rahman Patel, and Mian Nazir — whose tireless efforts made the event possible.
