US-based entrepreneur and Hilal-e-Imtiaz awardee Tanweer Ahmed has announced a generous contribution of USD $250,000 to support Pakistan’s Smart Villages Initiative—a visionary project designed to bridge the digital divide and empower rural communities.
In its first phase, five Smart Villages will be developed, each with an investment of $50,000, setting the stage for future expansion. The initiative will bring digital services, e-learning, telehealth, and modern connectivity to underserved areas, promising a transformative impact on rural lives.

The announcement was made in the presence of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Federal Minister for IT & Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja, who commended Mr. Ahmed’s dedication, calling it a powerful example of the Pakistani diaspora’s vital role in national development.
Originally from Sialkot and now based in Silicon Valley, Mr. Ahmed reaffirmed his commitment to Pakistan’s digital future, stating:
“This is just the beginning. Smart Villages will not only connect people but also create opportunities for education, healthcare, and entrepreneurship across rural Pakistan.”

The Smart Villages Initiative reflects strong public-private collaboration and symbolizes the shared vision of building a smarter, more connected Pakistan.
