PAGH Hosts Literary Evening Honoring Poetess Hameeda Rahman

The Pakistan Association of Greater Houston (PAGH) continued its celebrated literary series “Books and Tea” with a special evening dedicated to the acclaimed South Asian poetess Hameeda Rahman. The event was organized to honor her latest Urdu poetry collection, “بہت سے کام کرنے ہیں ,” and was held at the prestigious Jinnah Hall in the Pakistan Center Houston.

A Celebration of Poetry and Cultural Identity

Hameeda Rahman, a literary voice deeply rooted in the South Asian tradition and currently based in New York, has earned wide acclaim for her poignant expression and thought-provoking verse. Her newest collection reflects on themes of identity, belonging, and the human experience—resonating deeply with diaspora communities and poetry lovers alike.

The event drew a diverse audience of writers, intellectuals, community leaders, and poetry enthusiasts who gathered to celebrate her contribution to Urdu literature. Her readings were met with resounding applause, and her literary style was praised for its emotional depth and contemporary relevance.

Esteemed Guests Highlight Importance of Literary Dialogue

The evening featured notable addresses from key figures in the community. PAGH President Mr. Siraj Narsi welcomed guests and spoke passionately about the association’s commitment to promoting arts, literature, and cultural discourse in the Greater Houston area.

He emphasized that such events not only preserve the richness of Urdu literature but also create meaningful connections among generations of Pakistani-Americans. “Literature keeps us rooted while opening windows to the world,” he remarked.

Joining the evening as a special guest was distinguished poet and writer Ghazanfar Hashmi, who lauded Hameeda Rahman’s work for its originality and intellectual engagement. He reflected on the importance of nurturing poetic voices, especially those representing the South Asian diaspora.
