Saeed Sheikh, President of the Houston-Karachi Sister City Association (HKSSCA), visited the Karachi Press Club during his official trip to Pakistan, where he was warmly welcomed by President Fazil Jamili and General Secretary Sohail Afzal Khan.

During his address, Mr. Sheikh shed light on the pivotal role of the Houston-Karachi Sister City Association in strengthening ties between the two cities. He proudly stated that the Sister City relationship was formally established in 2009, making Karachi the only South Asian city to be officially recognized as a sister city by Houston, despite numerous global contenders. This distinction, he emphasized, is a great honor for Karachi.
Highlighting his participation in the Overseas Pakistanis Convention during his visit, Mr. Sheikh noted that Pakistan’s economic development must be prioritized. He reaffirmed that overseas Pakistanis are committed to supporting the nation’s growth and are actively collaborating with government bodies to bring about sustainable progress.

Mr. Sheikh shared updates on several welfare initiatives led by HKSSCA in collaboration with Helping Hands Development and its Karachi chapter. These initiatives include the inauguration of new RO (Reverse Osmosis) water filtration plants and the distribution of essential medicines to hospitals and underserved communities.
In a significant development, he announced the introduction of long-term scholarship programs for Karachi-based students at the University of Houston, aiming to empower the next generation of Pakistani youth. He further stated that Pakistani students in Houston often rely on HKSSCA in times of difficulty, and the association continues to provide critical support and assistance.
Additionally, Mr. Sheikh unveiled a unique youth development project launched in partnership with former cricketer Jalaluddin’s cricket academy. A team of 24 talented young cricketers has been selected for professional training, with the hope that some may go on to represent Pakistan at the international level.

As a gesture of hospitality, the Karachi Press Club presented Mr. Sheikh with a traditional Ajrak, while Mr. Sheikh gifted an official shield from the Houston city administration to the club. He was also given a tour of the Press Club’s facilities and took the opportunity to engage with its members.
Mr. Sheikh expressed deep appreciation for the warm welcome and described his visit to the Karachi Press Club as a memorable and meaningful experience.
