Remembering Jerry
Geraldine “Jerry” J. Houston, 87, of Rice Lake, Wis., passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025.
Early Life and Education
Born on June 10, 1937, in Barron, Wis., Jerry was the daughter of Lyle and Alvina (Borowski) Teal. She graduated from Barron High School in 1955.
Marriage and Family
On Sept. 8, 1956, Jerry married the love of her life, Donald Houston, in St. Paul, Minn. Together, they built a loving family and cherished their time together.
Career and Work Ethic
Jerry began working at American Excelsior in 1977 and remained dedicated to her job until she retired at the age of 73.
Passions and Interests
Jerry had a deep love for Christmas, joyfully collecting gifts all year long. She cherished her monthly luncheons with friends, shopping trips to Dollar General, solving crossword puzzles, writing letters, and delighting in Halloween visits from children. Above all, she treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren.
A Woman of Honesty and Warmth
Jerry had a heart of gold and a radiant smile that brightened the lives of those around her. Her honesty was unmatched—if you asked for her opinion, you had to be ready for the truth!
Survivors
Jerry is survived by her loving children: daughter Cherie (Rick) Jenkins; sons Kenny (Cheri), Jeff (Missi), and Mike (Aledgra); her beloved grandchildren Ashley (Vito), Katie (Dustin), Madison (Alex), Allison, Samantha (Chris), Trevor (Rhianon), Kym (Clint), Sean (Sandra), Derrick (Kelsie), Shawn (Erica), Cody, and Tanner (Amy); 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Sharon Peery and Dawn (Philip) Primeau; brothers Harwood (Sue) Teal and Mallard (Deborah) Teal; along with many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in Death
Jerry was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, and her parents.
Services and Celebration of Life
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake. Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Following the service, a celebration of Jerry’s life will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Rice Lake Elk’s Lodge, where friends and family can gather to honor her memory.
