Major Closures Following Second Bankruptcy Filing
Joann Fabrics & Craft Store is shutting down over 500 locations across the U.S. after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy for the second time in January 2025. The retailer first filed for bankruptcy in March 2024.
In a statement, Joann Inc. acknowledged the difficult decision, citing store performance and future strategy as key factors. The company emphasized that downsizing is essential to ensure long-term stability.
Texas to Lose 18 Joann Fabrics Locations
Among the closures, Texas will see 18 stores shutting down, while California faces the most significant impact with 61 stores closing.
Houston Joann Locations on the Closure List
Four stores in the Houston area are set to close, according to court documents filed on February 12:
- 15520 FM 529 Road, Houston
- 9960 Old Katy Road, Houston
- 290 Meyerland Plaza, Houston
- 1219 North Fry Road, Katy
The Joann Fabrics store at 12918 Willow Chase Dr. will remain open as the only Houston location. Other stores in Webster, Humble, Spring, and Sugar Land are not part of the initial closure list.
Dallas-Fort Worth Hit Hardest in Texas
The Dallas-Fort Worth area will lose the most Texas locations, with eight stores closing:

- 2640 West University Drive, Denton
- 1439 W. Pipeline Road, Hurst
- 715 Hebron Parkway, Lewisville
