Houston: A special screening of six short films produced through the collaboration of actors, writers, and directors from the film and television industries of Pakistan and the United States was held in Houston. The event was attended by renowned drama and film actors Adnan Shah Tipu and Asfar Ali, along with other prominent personalities associated with the Pakistani and American entertainment industries.
The short films presented at the screening impressed the audience with their quality, compelling storytelling, and thought-provoking themes. Among them, “Makafat” highlights a serious urban issue in Karachi that has contributed to the deaths of innocent children. The film also identifies the individuals and factors connected to the issue.
Another short film, “Jooti,” directed by Asfar Ali and featuring an impressive performance by Adnan Shah Tipu, sheds light on a painful social issue in which innocent lives are lost in the name of so-called “honor.” The film delivers a powerful message against such brutal practices in society.

Speaking at the event, Siraj Narsi, writer and director of Makafat, said that the film revolves around a serious urban problem in Karachi that has resulted in the deaths of innocent children. He said the film not only highlights the issue but also attempts to identify the characters and factors involved.
Renowned actor Adnan Shah Tipu said that Jooti, produced through collaborative filmmaking between Houston and Pakistan, is an important effort to raise awareness about the brutal practice of killing innocent people in the name of honor.
Television and film personality Asfar Ali said that Houston, particularly known within the Pakistani-American community as “Mini Karachi,” has witnessed growing interest not only in musical concerts but also in art, theater, and filmmaking. He said this growing interest encouraged him to join hands with Yasir to take the initiative of producing Jooti.

Zafar Ahmed, executive producer of Makafat, said Karachi faces numerous social and civic challenges, and the film focuses on one of its serious issues. He expressed confidence that Makafatwould be well received by audiences and would help generate greater awareness and discussion about important social problems.
The event highlighted the growing collaboration between Pakistani and American artists and filmmakers, with participants describing joint film projects as an important way to strengthen cultural ties between the two countries and promote Pakistani art and storytelling on an international platform.
