Houston’s public transportation agency, METRO, is updating parking rates at the Fannin South Park & Ride facility starting October 1, 2026, giving regular commuters and event-goers a new cost to consider when using the facility.
Fannin South, located at *1604 West Bellfort Avenue, is an important connection point for people who drive into the area and then continue their journey by *METRORail’s Red Line or METRO bus services. The facility serves routes including the Red Line, as well as several bus connections.
METRO has described Fannin South as an exception to its other Park & Ride facilities: parking at most METRO Park & Ride lots is free, while Fannin South normally charges for parking.
The agency’s social-media announcement says the updated parking rates take effect October 1. METRO’s currently published FAQ, however, still displays the previous daily rate of $3 per vehicle, so commuters should check the latest rate posted by METRO before parking under the new schedule.
A key rule commuters should know
Fannin South’s regular daily parking has no in-and-out privilege. Once a vehicle leaves the lot, a new parking payment is required to return.
For people who use the facility regularly, METRO also offers a monthly hang tag. Its currently published price is $40 and it provides in-and-out privileges.
Special events can cost more
Parking rules are different during major events, including events at the NRG complex, Houston Texans home games, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and stadium-sized concerts.
METRO currently lists special-event parking at Fannin South at $25 to $50, depending on the event. The special-event parking fee can include round-trip METRORail travel for everyone in the vehicle.
That makes Fannin South particularly useful for people who want to avoid driving and parking close to major events.
What Houston commuters should do
Anyone who regularly parks at Fannin South should check the updated rate before October 1 and factor the new cost into their commuting budget.
For occasional users, it may also be worth comparing the cost of Fannin South parking with other METRO options, since parking at other METRO Park & Ride facilities is generally free.
What Pakistani families in Houston should know
For Houston’s Pakistani-American community, this change may matter to families who use public transportation for work, medical appointments, shopping, school activities and trips to major events.
A few practical suggestions:
If you commute regularly: Check whether the monthly Fannin South hang tag makes sense for your travel pattern, particularly because it provides in-and-out privileges.
If you are going to an NRG event: Check the special-event parking rate before leaving home. Do not assume the normal daily rate applies.
If traveling as a family: Park-and-ride can reduce the need to find parking closer to the event venue. Check how many people are traveling and whether the event parking fee includes METRORail rides.
If you leave the lot: Remember that regular parking does not include in-and-out privileges. Returning after leaving may require another payment.
Keep valuables out of your vehicle: METRO says its parking facilities are periodically patrolled, but they do not have full-time security or continuous monitoring. METRO recommends locking vehicles, removing valuables from view and parking in well-lit areas.
Don’t leave a vehicle indefinitely: Fannin South is open 24 hours a day, but METRO says vehicles parked for more than 24 hours may be towed.
For families who use Fannin South regularly, the main takeaway is simple: check the new rate before parking from October 1 and understand whether you are using regular commuter parking or a special-event rate.
