HOUSTON: Animal homelessness is increasingly being recognized as more than an animal welfare concern, with its impact extending to public health, community safety, and the overall quality of life in Houston.
These issues were discussed at the PetSet State of Animal Welfare Conference, which brought together representatives and leaders from animal welfare organizations, public health agencies, law enforcement, the business community, and local government.
The conference focused on the importance of collaboration among different sectors to address animal homelessness and develop practical and sustainable solutions for the Houston community.
PetSet Lead Veterinarian Dr. Roberta Westbrook moderated the panel discussion. Panelists included Dr. Leah Barton, Sean Teare, and Michael Heckman, who shared their perspectives on animal welfare and related community concerns.
Houston Mayor John Whitmire and Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey also participated in the conference, highlighting the importance of continued leadership and cooperation in addressing animal welfare challenges.
