Cricket legend Wasim Akram attended a grand fundraising gala dinner in Houston to raise support for the construction of the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (SKMCH&RC) in Karachi, Pakistan.
The event drew an enthusiastic crowd of philanthropists, community leaders, and members of the Pakistani-American community, who came together to contribute toward the expansion of Pakistan’s largest network of free cancer hospitals.

Addressing the gathering, Wasim Akram highlighted the enduring legacy of Shaukat Khanum Hospital, established by Imran Khan, and praised its continued efforts to provide world-class cancer treatment to thousands of patients, regardless of financial means.
“Shaukat Khanum represents hope and compassion,” said Wasim Akram. “Every contribution made tonight will help bring the Karachi hospital closer to reality and change the lives of countless patients. I am deeply inspired by the generosity of our overseas community.”

The evening featured inspiring speeches, multimedia presentations, and a charity auction that showcased the hospital’s achievements and outlined its plans for future development. Participants expressed their unwavering support for the timely completion of the Karachi facility, which will be the third Shaukat Khanum Hospital following those in Lahore and Peshawar.
The event concluded with an earnest call for continued global support, reinforcing the hospital’s mission to provide advanced cancer treatment, promote medical education, and strengthen research across Pakistan.
