The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced on Friday that 25 individuals have been sentenced by military courts for their involvement in the violent events of May 9, describing it as a “dark chapter” in Pakistan’s history.
Sentencing Details
In the first phase, the Field General Court Martial issued sentences based on substantial evidence collected against the accused. The convicts, involved in attacks on key military and government installations, received sentences ranging from two to ten years.
Major Sentences Include:
- Jan Muhammad Khan: 10 years in prison for involvement in the Jinnah House attack.
- Muhammad Imran Mehboob: 10 years with hard labor for the Jinnah House attack.
- Raja Muhammad Ehsan: 10 years with hard labor for attacking GHQ.
- Rehmatullah: 10 years with hard labor for attacking the Punjab Regimental Center in Mardan.
- Anwar Khan: 10 years for involvement in the PAF base Mianwali attack.
Shorter Sentences Include:
- Zahid Khan: 4 years with hard labor for attacking Multan Cantt check post.
- Yasir Nawaz: 2 years with hard labor for involvement in the Mardan attack.
- Khurram Shahzad: 3 years with hard labor for attacking Multan Cantt check post.
- Muhammad Bilawal: 2 years for participation in the Jinnah House attack.
ISPR’s Statement
The Pakistan Army spokesperson emphasized the severity of the May 9 events and reiterated that the sentencing is backed by “irrefutable evidence.” The ISPR underscored its commitment to upholding accountability and maintaining national security in the face of such unprecedented violence.
This marks the first set of convictions, with more cases expected to follow as investigations continue.
