Spanish authorities have arrested a man and a woman in connection with the disappearance and suspected death of a missing man. The investigation was sparked by a Google Maps image showing a person loading a suspiciously large object into the trunk of a car.
Missing Man Reported After Unusual Messages
The case began when a relative reported the man missing in November last year. The family member had received suspicious messages from the man’s phone, in which he claimed to have met a new partner, was moving to another region, and planned to dispose of his phone. This sudden change in behavior raised alarms, as the two were in regular contact.
Google Maps Image Uncovers Key Evidence
During the investigation, police discovered a crucial image on Google Maps, taken in October in the small village of Tajueco, located in Spain’s Castile and León region. The image, which is still visible on Google Maps, shows a person leaning into the trunk of a red car with a large object wrapped in a light-colored cloth.
This was the first Google Maps update for Tajueco since November 2009, making the image a significant lead in the case.
Arrests Made and Human Remains Recovered
On November 12, police arrested the missing man’s former girlfriend and another man, who had also been in a relationship with the woman. Authorities allege their involvement in the man’s disappearance and death.
Further developments unfolded on December 11, when police recovered a badly decomposed torso in a cemetery in a nearby village. While formal identification is pending, authorities believe the remains may belong to the missing man.
