Child Fatally Struck by Vehicle in Southwest Houston

Tragic Accident Near Beltway 8

A devastating accident in southwest Houston has claimed the life of a young girl. The incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. on Concourse Drive near Beltway 8, where a child was struck by a vehicle. Houston police are actively investigating the scene.

Student Hit After Exiting School Bus

The eight-year-old girl, a student in the Alief Independent School District, was on her way home from school when the accident happened. According to Houston Police Lt. Va’Shawnda McLean, she had just been dropped off by a school bus when she ran into the road, leaving the driver with no time to react.

Driver Cooperating with Investigators

The driver of the black SUV involved in the accident remained at the scene and is fully cooperating with authorities. Police say the driver was not impaired, intoxicated, or speeding.

Somber Scene as Community Mourns

KPRC 2’s Bryce Newberry reported from the scene, describing a heartbreaking sight—a child’s backpack still lying in the middle of the road. Sky2 Chopper footage showed a large police presence and a taped-off area, with many families and children from nearby apartments visibly shaken.

Victim Did Not Survive

The child was rushed to the hospital but tragically did not survive. Authorities are in contact with Alief ISD as they continue their investigation into this heartbreaking loss.
